Description: This event is perfect for photographers and gardening enthusiasts looking for an alternative way to capture beautiful plant and flower images.

Arrival: Meet the photographer and tour the exhibition on the gallery walls. Refreshments will be served.

Presentation: Ellen Hoverkamp will start with a 30 minute slide-show presentation about her usual approach to floral imaging with specific emphasis on her collaboration with writer Ken Druse for the book “ Natural Companions: The Garden Lover’s Guide to Plant Combinations”.

Demonstration: A 30 minute demonstration by the artist, using a photo scanner and Photoshop Elements, covering the following topics:

.  Brief Introduction to scanner, tools, scanner software settings

.  Using a scanner for macro photography, abstraction via enlargement

.  Creating a plant composition – Using wire to wrap, to suspend, weighing down and propping plants

.  Using Photoshop Effects and Filters as a shortcut to creating a finished looking image.

.  Discussion of ways scanner photography can be used as an imaging tool applied to crafts like scrapbooking, garden journaling, etc.

About the photographer: Ellen Hoverkamp is from West Haven Connecticut. She holds a B.S in Art Education from Southern Connecticut University. From 2005 to the present, Ellen has exhibited her photographic work in solo shows throughout the New York and Connecticut regions and has received many awards. Her photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines, most recently Organic Gardening Magazine’s 70th Anniversary Issue. Ellen’s most recent photographic book project is “Natural Companions: The Garden Lover’s Guide to Plant Combinations,” published in 2012 by Stewart, Tabori and Chang, an imprint of Abrams Books.
