Option 1: LECTURE – THE PHOTOGRAPHIC GARDEN
This is a dynamic presentation open to photographers of all levels and garden enthusiasts to sharpen their photographic skills to become better, more intuitive artists in the garden.

Description: The Photographic Garden lecture is based on the just published book of the same title (Rodale 2012). The book is a thorough exploration of the art of garden photography, with chapters on using light and design, post-production techniques, hundreds of images, how-tos, and insights. The Photographic Garden lecture is a 1.5-hour PowerPoint presentation on the fundamentals of successful garden photography, with an emphasis on creative technique and technical literacy. (The lecture is a requirement for those attending part 2, the afternoon workshop. See details below.)
Q &A Session and Book Signing. Browse through Benson”s photo exhibit “Birds, Beasts and Flowers” on the gallery walls and a selection of prints from the Photographic Garden book. Refreshments will be served.
Option 2: WORKSHOP – THE PHOTOGRAPHIC GARDEN: “Mastering the Art of Digital Garden Photography”
This is a two-part workshop including a morning presentation (see details above) and a 3-hour intensive, hands-on workshop creating powerful images in the garden, with location shooting, on-site feedback, and portfolio review.

Workshop: 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm (the magical hours for light!)
All levels are welcome but you must have a working knowledge of your camera.
Price: $75 (includes morning lecture) - Limited to 15 participants
This workshop will be held at two different locations:
1) The original Organic Gardening Experimental Farm Homestead, established 1942, at 2056 Minesite Road, Allentown, PA 18103. (Photo shoot)
Schedule: Arrive promptly at the Farm by 5:00 pm. We will be on location for about 2 hours.

We will drive back to FloreAnt Projects Gallery (10 minutes away from the farm, click here for directions) for a follow-up PowerPoint presentation on working with the images we just shot in post-production (Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop). We will end the evening with portfolio reviews if you wish to have Matthew critique your work.
Equipment needed: Digital camera of your choice and, not required but nice to have, tripod, different lenses, flash.
Note: We will be working through the evening so bring food and drinks with you. Refreshments will be served only at the gallery.
Matthew Benson’s photography is in the permanent collection of the International Center of Photography, New York, as well as numerous private and gallery collections. His work has been awarded both DESI and Society of Publication Designers Awards and appears regularly in magazines, books, catalogs and folios. He is on the National Speakers Tour for the Garden Clubs of America, and lectures widely on Garden and Landscape Photography.

Raised and educated in Europe, with a Masters Degree from Columbia University, he is a trans-Atlantic sailor and certified alpine ski instructor. Architecture, Design, and Biodynamic Organic Farming are ongoing interests, as is the restoration of Stonegate Farm (http://www.stonegatefarmNY.org), the 1860s Carpenter Gothic farm he shares with his wife Heidi, and children Daisy Marlena and Miles.
Matthew lives and works in both North America and Europe.
